How many you need depends on your system. A typical 3 bedroom semi detached house with a tank in the loft, stop cock under the kitchen sink and no power showers will require 4. A typical Combination boiler set-up will require 2 or 3, and a typical Megaflow system will require 3 or 4. On larger houses with bigger pipes, power showers and longer distances from the tanks to the outlet, you could require as many as 10 or more. Even then, at a cost of £65 each, it doesn't come anywhere near the cost of installing a water softener, and you won't have the disruption in your home.
